Andrea Boldrini Apache 5

Andrea Boldrini

In Stock Rating: of 5 Stars!

The Andrea Boldrini Apache 5 is the latest incarnation of Bodrini's top end climbing shoe. Although they don't come cheap you are unlikely to regret spending that little bit extra. The Apache 5 has a really snug fit that will allow you to use the shoe to it's full potential without causing any unnecessary pain.

Like it's predecessors the Apache 5 is primarily designed for steep and overhanging rock, and as such they make great a great bouldering shoe. They have a down turned toe box with specific sole tension, single Z type velcro fastening, X Tension system on the forefoot (the more you push on your toes the better support you get) and a superbly designed heel that will allow you to heel hook in any position. The Apache 5 feels pretty similar to previous version, which is great because there was very little that needed improving on.

As far as sizing goes the Apache 5 is similar to most Sportiva shoes (in other words you probably want to buy this shoes smaller than your street size). The upper is made from Lorica microfiber - and so it won't stretch over time. Although Boldrini shoes are very popular in France, they are not yet widely stocked in UK stores, so we are aware that most climbers will not have tried them on before. We will be updating this page in the near future with some clear sizing advice, however in the meantime please feel free to give us a call or send us a message if you need some help. Don't worry if you don't buy the right size first time around because we are always happy to exchange shoes without asking for any further postage charge.

Customer Questions

1. Hi guys, Just wondering how stiff/wide/aggressive these shoes are compared to eg. Instinct VS? Usually based in Sheffield with limited student budget and looking for that holy grail all-round shoe technical shoe Cheers !

The Apache 5 is a touch softer and narrower than the Instinct VS. It also has a less aggressive profile, which makes it a good all rounder.

I got my very first pair or Andrea Boldrini. I have Talisman not Apache 5 , but i believe they are pretty much similar. First thing first - I have read a lot about beginners shoes and best one to start with. I've also tried different ones but Talisman really got my attention. From all shoes i've tried AB where the most comfortable. i went 1 size smaller then my Adidas running shoes and they fit perfectly. To be fair in UAE there are not may choices. Ive tried few 5.10, La Sportiva, and Millet. Cannot really compare with other shoes how sticky they are as i don't have experience but i can say i managed to hold my feet onto smallest grips and i have big foot believe me:) I'm extremely happy with the shoes that i even got one pair for my wife and she is total beginner as well and i could see improvement in her climbing right away. Yes, they are a bit expensive (650 aed = 123 pounds) but i don't regret... how often we climb, they will last 8-12 months for sure.. Highly recommend

These are comfortable climbing shoes, flexible midsole and very well made. however the fitting for narrower feet n smaller heels will not be ideal since the heels are baggy and you'll get heel fart n possibly blisters on the back of your heels and you ll feel it even more while climbing harder route 5.10 and above even though they seem to be fitting fine after putting them on and walk around. Would Recommended for wider feet* as far as sizing go, they are the same as La Sportiva, if your la sportiva is 38 go for 38 in these. i bought mine half a size too big and a bit annoyed coz these are the most expensive pair i ever own and i wont get to use them for climbing my new limits coz the heels become baggy while toeing on small edges ;-( (i wish they make a smaller heel cups or cushions and they will fit much more perfectly!)

Not much to say. Boldrini dismiss the macho nonsense that in order to be any good, your shoes must hurt you. I can wear them incessantly, they never hurt and they fit tight/comfortable everywhere: you can always feel where your foot is. I have 2 pairs now and Boldrini's repair service is both effective and cheap. Very cheap: which takes some of the sting out of long term ownership from the steep starting price.

These are the shoe I pick up first for a trip to the climbing wall, good all rounder, really comfy with sticky rubber and a flexible sole. I only ever wear my Sportiva Solutions for technical bouldering, other than that these are the only shoes i need. Expensive but great quality.

Whilst i respect the previous reviewers experiences I have to disagree with them saying they're no good for outdoors... I've just returned from 5 days climbing very sharp Limestone in Spain and mine are absolutely fine. I'll reiterate what everyone else has said- amazing comfort for the performance level. So much so i'm wondering if i've gone a half a size or even a full size too big! My last pair of shoes were Solutions, which performed brilliantly indoors but I found weren't quite stiff enough outside. For me the Apache's have the perfect balance of suppleness, feel and stiffness. I was also a little skeptical about the rubber having had Vibram on my last 3 pairs of rock shoes but again the Boldrini's surpassed my expectations. I love these shoes (still wish i'd gone half a size smaller though) but as with all things nothing is perfect and I do find the heel a little baggy and not protective enough when heel hooking- i'm just gonna have to man up a bit I guess! I'm no pro climber through- I currently lead around French 6c if that helps put my comments in perspective.

What can I say about these shoes. Good but not for the outdoors .... The first set lasted 1hr in font. The tow became sliced on the top and I though I better stop using them so that BF could see the damage after only one hour of use. I came back to the UK and sent them back for replacement which I must say was very easy. They agreed that this was a build defect so I thought I would try another pair. Got the new ones and had a few good indoor sessions with no slices. Then I took them outside again and guess what... This time both shoes ended up with slices in the toe. As you can imagine I was not best pleased and have had to send them back again for a replacement with another brand of shoe. To sum it up they are technically a good shoes as long as you climb indoor as from my experience they aren't well made enough to fend off rock.

Brilliant. Have wide feet and these met all the claims about being both comfortable and effective. Can happily wear them for a couple of hours a go.

These shoes are ridiculous, hard to put into words just how well they perform, and as a bonus they are really comfortable. No more stuffing your feet into 1/2 sizes smaller than your trainers, my big toes are flat in these and i can leave them on for a long as i like without pain. First climb in the shoes i finished a problem i had been working on for a few weeks, purely due to being able to use the poor footholds much better, small holds feel like your standing on jugs. Even though they are stiff, the shoe still gives you the sensitivity, so your able to feel the lips etc on the holds etc. They give you so much confidence your able to focus on the climb and not worry about your feet They may be more expensive than other brands, but you get what you pay for at the end of the day, and your poor feet will thank you. I for sure am going to be buying these again, no doubt.

I've been climbing in the Apaches for a good few months now and I'm now at the point where I can give them an honest assessment. I've got pretty wide feet and the La Sportiva Katana and Solution were about the best fit I could find until I decided to take a chance on a pair of Boldrini Scorpios which fit and climb great and that gave me the confidence to buy a very expensive pair of Apaches. I got the same size as my Katanas but because of the great fit in the toe box I was able to go a full size smaller in the Boldrinis and they are still way more comfortable. You still get the full tension of the shoe but without feeling like you have to break your toes to use them. It's a bit weird to use a really snug shoe without painful toes but hey, it works for me and I've never looked back since. All my other shoes; Katanas, Solutions, Galileo's, Pontas, Muira VS, and even my Scorpios are gathering dust. The build quality is way better than than the earlier Boldrini shoes and I am very very happy with them. Expensive - YES, worth it - DEFINATELY

My god! These shoes are amazing. Can shoes be too sticky. I dont know if that is a problem for most shoes. Bouldering the shoes toe and heel sticks on everything... too well even. Crazy shoes! There wasnt a mm of space in the shoes which are quite a chore to get on as they fit so well. Easier to remove with sweaty feet.... Pretty comfy, although my feet havnt quite warmed up2 them yet as ive only climbed in them once. I just really wanted to rant about how great they are. Perfection achieved, if only they were slightly cheaper. Tiny features and smears are easy as jugs. Literally like two hands on your feet with the flexibility and grip the shoes provide.
