Submited By: Helen Seaborne on 26/11/2010 After doing a little trad using my old sport rope, I quickly decided I needed proper half ropes. However, I had a search about to find anything at a sensible price given that, of course, I had to buy two! The Beal Cobra fitted the bill perfectly. It handles beautifully - none of the rather disconcerting new rope over-slickness, just flows freely and consistenlt, and keeps on doing so despite some heavy use over the last few months. No signs of any wear or nicking, even thought my novice approach to trad means it gets dragged over edges where I should have extended the runners more.
The colour choice is a little limited, but enough - how many colours do you need after all? I went for blue & pink, although this is now officially known as 'red' so that I always put red on the right when climbing, and always pull red after abseiling off - only 1 thing to remember so I'm less likely to forget.
My only criticism is that there is no middle mark. Not essential on a half rope I know, but would be handy on those short routes so I could just double up one rope, not have to flake them both.
