A single-rope, sport-cragging belay device, the Black Diamond ATC-Sport is built using the rest of the ATC family’s time-tested design. This is the first belay device I've brought and only the second I've used so take what I say with a pinch of salt. I've found that this design (with one side higher than the other) of device suffers from some times getting twisted on the rope. The rope doesn't always go the correct way into the feed. It's perfectly fine and doesn't cause much of a problem but I'd probably buy a symmetrical device in the future.

thought i would put up a review because when i was buying this and looking for reviews online they were all saying the same thing.. "you cant use it with half ropes or a retrievable abseil"... well year you are a buying a single loop belay device you knew that before you got it totally unhelpful... anyway this thing is cool it looks cool and i have not used a belay device with grip before and this is great if you climber is sitting on the rope for ages as it takes the weight off your hands quite substantially.. i have used the device a lot indoors and sport climbing outdoors and it has performed perfectly is still looks lovely and does the job for sport climbing
