A true variable-friction device, the Black Diamond ATC-XP maintains the silky-smooth feeding of the ATC but ups the braking power. For belaying and rappelling with 7.7-11 mm ropes, it’s designed with a smooth, low-friction side and a high-friction side with v-shaped grooves for three times more friction. An extended central web keeps biners and ropes properly oriented and helps reduce kinking.

Upgraded from a Wild Country belay device (bought as a set with harness).
The old one would snag when taking slack causing me to exert shoulder a lot -causing a lot of discomfort. I also found it was very slippy when providing slack on new lead ropes.
This one however, is amazing. It gives me so much more control when lowering, the rope never snags but I can also allow the rope to glide SAFELY through it at a good speed.
It's lightweight but absolutely solid - love it.

I bought this device to replace the one I lost at a climbing centre. It is even better than the older version of the same thing as it is lighter. It is very easy to use for lead climbing and top roping.

I bought this when I was a beginner because of the great reviews it had and I am very impressed. After climbing with my partner (who weighs a lot more than me!) it really helps with the weight distribution. It also helps the rope run through smoothly, without catching. Worth the money!

Awesome lightweight belay device and it looks so cool. I wouldn't climb without it.

Strong. Great all rounder belay device, indors and outdoors. Easy to use and has a really good grip on ropes. Better than the small ones IMO.

Very good belay device, light but still has a solid feel to it. Rope feeds through easily without jaming and the teeth gives it lots of friction when arresting a fall. Well worth the price.

The device is really smooth and is great for paying out rope for lead climbing as well as quickly taking in rope and gripping onto the rope with the great teeth on the device.
Great product and great delivery

As a first time climber this device is brilliant, it really helps you get use to belaying someone as it assists you with stopping them.
Also once you get use to belaying the device works wonders.
My brother borrows it of me sometimes when he belays as he has a sport belay which doesn't hold as well as this one.
Would recommend it to everyone!

It's very good and has not broken yet the little grips at the front dose increases the friction. Mine is blue and matches my eyes.
