Submited By: TelB Bradley on 19/06/2009 Being a relative novice to rock climbing, I purchased a set of cams from bananafingers sizes 0.75, 1, 2 and 3 to give me the best chance at Stanage Edge, Peak District, Derbyshire. I already have a full set of nuts and hexes but wanted the flexibility and peace-of-mind that comes from having cams available. I chose the Black Diamond C4 Cams as they have several advantages. The cams;
a) have a useful overlap between cam sizes meaning that potentially fewer cams need to be carried and possibly more importantly in these hard times, purchased.
b) have four cams which allows for a more secure placement, particularly useful in uneven rock.
c) are easy to use and easy to control allowing ofr dead easy placement and equally easy cleaning or removal even with gloves.
d) are lighter than some other cams being easier to carry up the crag.
e) look fantastic! - Honestly every one that I have climbed with since have commented on the cams.
The size 2 came in useful when I bailed out on RIP, a Severe at at Baildon Bank. Basically, I had placed other protection but there was a underhang vertical crack under the slab that I needed to get up. I couldn’t find a way up RIP so the choice was either to climb down or get lowered down. I trusted the Black Diamond Size 2 cam to the extent that I placed it in the crack and was easily and comfortably lowered off the route.
How much better can it get than that?
