The Boreal Storm is a all round shoe that makes use of Boreal's new MiFit fastening system. Undoubtedly many of you will be wondering what was so wrong with velcro or laces. The problem with velcro is that you can only really tighten the shoe in-line with the velcro straps. Therefore some shoes can feel a bit 'baggy' in places. The same problem does not exist for laced shoes, however patience is not a virtue shared by everyone. The new MiFit system does seem to work pretty well, allowing a tight fit to be achieved quickly. For more info on how the MiFit tightening system works please see this Boreal pdf. The Boreal Storm is not aimed directly at any particular breed of climber. It can be used to good effect both bouldering and trad climbing, indoors and out. The Storm uses FS-Quattro rubber, which is nice and sticky and great for smearing. It also has a really well designed ridged heel that works beautifully when heel hooking. In terms of aggression the Boreal Storm is about average. Although the toe does not look particularly downturned, a concave midsole forces the toes into a slightly more aggressive position. Having said this, the Storm is not overly aggressive and can be worn for long periods quite comfortably. The upper is made from split leather, and they are unlined, so there is the potential for a little stretching. We think that most climbers will wear these at half a size smaller than their trainer size, however if you know you are not like most climbers please adjust accordingly!
