The Edelrid Mantle boulder pad has a folding design (rather than the taco design of the Dead Point). The 10cm thick Mantle is comprised of two different types of foam to ensure that the pad cushions your fall whilst still remaining firm underfoot. The foam is covered by strong ballistic nylon, which makes for a durable and water repellent shell. The Edelrid design quality can also been seen in the super-strong aluminium buckles and padded shoulder straps. Although it may not be immediately obvious from the photo, the Edelrid logo is actually made out of carpet material which provides the perfect surface for brushing the dirt off your climbing shoes before your next attempt. However, the most innovative feature of the Edelrid Mantle is the hefty zipper that works it's way round most of the pad. This allows you to choose whether the two halves of the pad are joined in the traditional manner (along the long edges) or on the short sides. If the two halves of the pad are connected along the short sides this creates an extra long pad that is ideal for traverses. When connected on the long side the Mantle measures 120 x 115 cm. When connected end on end it measures 230 x 60 cm. The modular design of this pad also comes in handy if you're packing in a few days bouldering and you forgot to book yourself into the nearby five-star hotel. When it starts to get late just zipper your pad into traverse mode and it suddenly morphs into a luxury camping mattress that is long enough for even the tallest of climbers. Not content with their clever new design, Edelrid have also decided to include their Sit Start pad along with the Mantle as standard. For more info on the Sit Start please see the following page (http://www.bananafingers.co.uk/edelrid-sit-start-pad-p-680.html). We have high expectations for this pad. Expect to see the Edelrid Mantle appearing at a boulder near you very soon!
