Submited By: David Shaw on 07/11/2009 You've read the reviews, you've searched the web and you're wondering whether to buy these shoes. Yep, do it. These are ideal beginner's shoes. Great grip; easily adjustable straps; cool packaging; environmentally friendly.
But you're a beginner and you don't know what size to get. Be cautious of any climbing fanatic who tells you that pain is good. They will tell you that over-tight shoes allow you to push your toe into the smallest cracks and smear yourself over the wall to solve some ridiculously strenuous “problem”.
Beginners should prioritise comfort over performance. Once hooked, you may well get some kind of kick out of the pain. Masochists and experts will want to buy an impossibly tight pair.
I take 44 and bought a pair of these in size 9.5 UK. My G*d, did they hurt!
Those totally awesome, yet strangely crazed fanatics at the local climbing centre told me they were no good if I did not feel pain, so advised me to keep them as they would make it possible to do more difficult routes.
I accepted their advice. But they were WRONG!!!
Don't be a fool or a masochist (unless you like that kind of thing). Buy a half-size bigger than you normally take.
