Advertised as a men's shoe, these are wider than the women's equivalent and so perfect for many women too. I bought my first pair because they were cheap and I was reckoning on wearing them indoors only, where there's no point wasting high-priced shoe rubber. However I'm now a complete convert to the comfort they offer with, to be honest, no difference in performance on 90% of the routes I climb. Very occasionally I'll feel the need to wear a powerful shoe on steep routes outdoors, but the effect is has may well be largely psychological! Both my enjoyment and my on-sighting have improved due to being so comfortable in these shoes.

This is my second pair of shoes, and my second pair of Evolv Defy. I have kept the 'old' pair despite having worn through the big toe, great for climbing cracks and not worrying about ruining your shoes! Well, I had the old shoes a year and they took quite a long time to mold properly to my feet, the new ones are still a little tight on the big toe after 3 months of use, but offer great feet and a solid platform for balancing on features. The 'quick-release' velcro is great as you can rip the shoes off after a challenging climb, and the finger loops at the back are great for pulling them back on, even with sore fingers and forearm pump. I don't have anything to compare with, but happy enough to re-purchase.

Bought these more as a gym shoe than anything else and to be honest I am impressed with the fact that theya re comfy - far more comfy than my 5.10 Anazis which hurt like hell after each climb.
They will do most things in the gym relatively easily and outdoor they are probably a little soft to get more technical than F7a bouldering which is what I use them for, but they are cheap and cheerful and do what they say on the tin.
The rubber isn't as good as stealth but the comfort is a major factor for me and I take a half size down as I'm no gluton for pain!

I started climbing a few months ago, and this where the shoes I chose to be my first and I can definitely say I coundn't have chosen better.
I bought a size half a number less than I use normally (for street shoes) and they fit perfectly. Feels confortable with just enough pressure. The Defy is good for all types of climbing and they're also very good looking.
The only thing this shoes are not good for, is when you need a grip in very very small footholds... if you're looking for absolute precision, maybe these shoes aren't the best choice. But if you want a good climbing shoe for all situations, that feels confortable, performs very well and has a good price, go for this one. You won't regret it.

Best all-rounder I've seen, after minimal breaking in time they can be worn all day, yet you can still strap that velcro tight when required for higher performance, obviously being an all-rounder they are not ideal for tiny foot-holds, and TRAX rubber isn't the stiffest. - On that note I reckon they are a good choice if you're in to Gritstone as the durable rubber is brilliant for smearing. - I'm a 10 in trainer and fit well in the 9.5 Defy. (Warning: the more crammed your foot is in Evolv boots, the less time you have before a hole appears) - Top quality versatile rock boots though!

These shoes are good for a beginner climber, a good price if your just starting out, unfortunately I felt that the shoes were too focused on comfort, and do not perform very well on technical routes, the rubber is soft and wears easily. I still wear these shoes on longer, outdoor routes just because they are ridiculously comfy but would advise intermediate+ climbers to look for something a bit less soft.
