The Pontas Lace Up Climbing Shoe is the second installment in the Sharma Signature Series of shoes. Who else better to design a climbing shoe than one of the strongest, most well acclaimed climbers in the world. The Pontas Lace-up is a precision edging master due to the design. It is equipped with a full mid sole and extra half mid sole for added support and stiffness while still offering a glove like fit in the forefoot and heel.

The Pontas lace-up has a higher toe rand with an extended Trax high friction rubber rand around the shoe offering excellent protection and added grip when toe hooking or scumming. With the speed lacing system, the Pontas is easy on and off, unlike other lace ups, and gives you quick sensitivity adjustments at your fingertips.

Details:

  • Profile: Asymmetrical toe profile (KA-1 last)

  • Rand: 2.2mm TRAX® duro-rand
  • Upper: Non-stretch Synthatek synthetic upper

Evolv Pontas Lace Up Reviews

Great shoes, but yeah they smell awful from about the third use...

To start of I loved the shoe from the moment I did try it on. It`s tight, its comfortable and you can stand on anything. But he tear down to fast, my first pair did last about 3-4 moths and my second pair about 2 moths of use. So I`m not sure if I should pick up a third pair.

These are a really great all round shoe. The precision of the toe makes them an ideal shoe for both routes and bouldering, and the security they offer for the foot in general makes them great for both overhanging problems and technical slabs. I bought mine a size too small primarily for bouldering and short overhanging routes and they really do the trick! The only downsides are that the heel can be a little loose when hooking because of the way that it is shaped, but again this is gives a real bonus for power through the toe. Also, the toes are perhaps not as durable as those of other aggresive shoes of this relative standard as mine wore through fairly quickly, (although having said this i did put in a lot of wear on them, climbing for long periods of time all day, everyday). I think another big aspect to take into account when buying this shoe is your foot shape; i can see the slender footed or long toed climber having problems. None the less, a great all round shoe! I would say a step up from the slightly more expensive, great all-rounder, anasazi Five Ten.

I found the Evolv Pontas lace up to be a super good climbing shoe. Technical, downturned (ish), sticky and with a great fit they served me well on everything from steep limestone, to borrowdale volcanic to dirty 'orrible grit. I usually take a 8.5 trainer and have used both a 7.5 and 8 in these. I prefered the 7.5 because they do have a slight tendancy to 'bag-out' after extensive use. If you find that the La Sportiva Muiras don't quite fit your foot right (like me) I would say the Evolv Pontas is a great alternative. As with all Evolv shoes I've ever used the rubber is super sticky but wears through pretty quickly. I wore these at least three times p/week, every week for about 3-4 months indoors and outdoors until they both had holes at the toe. In comparison to my Scarpa Boosters which I have done exactly the same (if not more), they have lasted me 12 months ... and the reason they're getting binned is because they're becoming a bloody health hazard with the smell.

great all-round shoes with very sticky rubber. sizing is pretty much same as you would wear your normal shoes. if you want to wear really tight, i would drop half-size down but no more than that. the only thing i have to say is that the shoes wear off quite quick.
