The Petzl Ange S is an ultra-light, compact carabiner that makes use Petzl's MonoFil Keylock system. This is a tech way of saying that the carabiner has just one wire strand (as opposed to the usual 2). Although this new generation of carabiner has similarities to both traditional bar-gate and wire-gate carabiners, it is actually an entirely new breed. It takes the simplicity of a bar-gate carabiner and uses wire gate technology to reduce its weight to a mere 28 grams. Weight saving is not the only benefit that comes from doing away with two wire strands. It also means that it is no longer possible to clip one crab through the wiregate of another. Furthermore, because of the wire gate's narrow profile it is less likely to rub against the rock, which can only help increase its lifespan. In short the Ange S is a reliable, lightweight and very clippable carabiner that is the ideal for keeping your weight to a minimum. - Petzl's MonoFil Keylock ensures smoother opening and closing of the carabiner and a much longer lifetime compared to traditional wire gate carabiners. The wire gate is protected from lateral rubbing (against rock, etc).
- The unique H-profile allows an optimal size and strength-to-weight ratio
- The indent on the bottom of the ANGE S and ANGE L carabiners helps keep the STRING in place so that the sling is properly positioned on the carabiner.
- The surfaces that come in contact with the rope and with the anchor are wider, favoring passage of the rope and reducing carabiner wear
- The nose of the carabiner has a hole that allows ice, snow or dirt to be cleared out
