The MiniTraxion Pulley is an “all in one” pulley and blocking device. It is quite small, light and really easy to install. It replaces the combination of a classic pulley and a blocking device, which is commonly used for pulling loads or people. The Mini Traxion also allows climbing on a rope as a classical blocking device. As a proof of how helpful it could be, this MiniTraxion is the core part of the Crevasse rescue kit provided by Petzl. Thanks to a device similar to the Tibloc (a small blocking device which is also a part of the Crevasse Rescue Kit), the MiniTraxion works even if the rope is frozen or covered by snow (or mud), because of small holes the ice or the snow (or mud) goes away and doesn’t bloc the pulley. This is my main usage; I always have it with me on a glacier. Sure it’s heavier than a Tibloc and 2 prussic but it is easier to install, which could make a difference in a critical situation…
There is two ways to use the pulley, as a blocking pulley or as a simple pulley if you hold up the blocking device. In this simple pulley mode it could be used on Tyrolean traverses, but Petzl recommends using it associated with the Ultralegere.
Suitable ropes must have a diameter from 8mm to 13mm, so it is quite a broad range.
