Rating: of 5 Stars!

The Pod Alpine 50 is a functional and lightweight 50 litre pack designed for alpine climbing but will perform well outside of this arena as well. Manufactured from 210D cordura ripstop nylon on its body with a 420D ballistic cordura nylon base the Alpine 50 durable and weather resistant.

Great freedom of movement is achieved through a tapered profile which means there is more space around the hips and a more balanced centre of gravity. There are many handy and well placed features externally on the rucksack including a carrying system for ice axes, ski poles or walking poles. There is also a rope carrying loop and haul loops on both the front and rear.

The Alpine 50 has a thermoformed back panel that uses a closed cell foam which wont absorb any water. This is supported by alloy staves which can be removed from inside the sack. The load bearing waist belt has built in gear loops for extra racking capabilities but this can be quickly removed when required.

The lid has internal and external pockets and can be extened or taken off the main sack with the quick release system. With the lid off the roll top closure keeps the weather out. The lining of the bag has a light grey PU coating to help keep the elements out and all the seams are triple stitched and bound. There is also an internal pocket and an outlet for hoses from hydration systems.

Pod Alpine 50 Reviews

Submited By: Iain Williamson on 30/11/2010
Basically what does one want from a rucksack? As with all gear, it has to fit well, and for a rucksack to bounce around on kidneys is not a pleasant experience, given that it will be worn for a long while. It should not stick out too far back for obvious reasons both evident on buses, trains and planes as well as hanging over an overhang. There is the obvious...it should be able to contain all needed. It should have enough containers. It should not fall apart even from a pull or scrape. My Pod Alpine 50 over-satisfied most of that criteria: too many containers, too complicated. Too much room. Too much overhang as well, from the top lid..all of that was of course reflected in the price. This rucksack is suited for expeditions in the old-fashioned sense of the word. It is hard to justify using it unless it is for a trip to Patagonia, Pakistan or Nepal.
