Subtley improved and enhanced internally, the Red Chili Spirit VCR has also been given a stylish external makeover. Technically, it keeps a tight, focused toe and foot hugging fit. The triple VCR strapping has been modified for a more secure fit. The Spirit VCR has a firm midsole, giving it the power and support for bouldering and a wide variety of routes. Other modifications include a new compact toe shape, which allows more precise footwork and a re-worked heel which is superb for hooking on lime grit or indoors.

Despite all the tweaking that Red Chili have been up to, the popular Impact Zone heel system remains in place. This innovative feature ensures that your heel is cushioned whether you are flaking off a boulder problem or just walking off the crag.  Essentially this is achieved by just a hidden layer of foam, however it has proved a popular way to increase comfort without sacrificing performance.

The Red Chili Spirit VCR is designed as an intermediate to advanced all-rounder but with the subtle extra support it provides an even more ‘user-friendly’ base for long days out at the crag, bouldering or wandering round at the wall.

    * Impact Zone – Shock Absorb System heel for total comfort.
    * Classic Spirit semi-asymetric last for performance.
    * New shape heel and slingshot.
    * Super sticky new 4.2mm Red Chili ‘F1’ rubber.
    * Graduated midsole for perfect flex and feel
    * Smaller sizes especially tuned for the smaller foot.
    * Low profile toe-box fits cracks well.
    * Wide lacing adapts to most foot shapes.
    * Distinctive Red / Silver colour
    * Twin pull on tabs.

I have had two pairs of these but i will not be buying again. These shoes are very comfortable and the rubber is sticky. The shoe is good at edges and average at smearing. It does not give any strength to the toe but sticks well. Good level of feeling through the sole. the 'impact zone' is good for heal hooks comfort too. BUT the rubber wears out way to fast around the toe. now i know this is a technique thing to some degree. My foot work is average its not silent placements everytime but its not stabbing scraping either. my first pair lasted 6 months climbing 3 time a week that was fine. 2nd pair just about 3 months climbing only twice a week. 24 climbs is unacceptable for a shoe to be trashed even for a beginner let alone a more experienced climber. Whilst all my friends are in katanas and solutions and pointy scarpas i decided to try 5.10 spires. Didn't want to junk expensive shoes. Im loving the 5.10 spires but that's for a different review

I've had the shoes now for 3 months and have been using them indoors a few times a week and once for a weekend outside. i've had no problems with them and they are still in good condition. They fit well and seem to do as they were described.

I agree with Sam. I bought these shoes in late February 2011 and they are by now totally ruined. There are huge holes in the toes of both shoes going all the way through. The folding velcro closure means that the line on the inside of the shoe make a painful line down the top of the foot. When heel hooking on delicate holds, after a while, blisters really start to appear. They have also completely lost their shape and the toes are totally upturned and keep slipping. They are an alright shoe but if they dont deserve such a high price tag for them.

The Spirt vcr is a really good shoe if your looking for short term use (couple of months) which is not a very long life of the shoe, i got mine in late April 2011 and i have used them 3 times a week for about 5 weeks now, and i can see many faults with the shoe. These faults could be though wear and tear but i shall name them anyway. 1. The base of the velcro straps have worn away and are splitting/ripping, they might not last another few weeks! 2. the grip/pointyness of the outer sole has worn down to a very curved edge so my feet keep on slipping on the smaller foot holds. 3. Stiching on the white bits of the shoe have snapped! but it doesnt seem to effect the performance of the shoe very much. I have had many good experiences with this shoe like doing a couple of 7c+ routes with them and lots of 6a's. so its a good shoe allthought lets it down by the short lifespan of them, thanks for reading. :)
