Trango have come up trumps with their latest innovative belay device, the Trango Cinch. This simple to use device takes some of the responsibility away from the belayer, however as Mr Daly makes clear in the video below, the Cinch has not been designed so that daydreamers can belay too. The Trango Cinch works best with ropes of a diameter somewhere between 9.4 and 11mm, however when used with caution experienced belayers may be able to get away with something slightly thinner. The Cinch should not be used on twin or half ropes. After a big fall the Cinch works dynamically, which should help to reduce shock loads to the belay system. Furthermore it feeds rope smoothly and easily, and is ergonomically designed such that it sits nicely in your hand.
