This is the Western Mountaineering Hooded Flash Jacket. When we are selecting new brands for our store we always look for the best quality products in any given category. As far as down filled garments are concerned the choice is simple. Western Mountaineering. There is a lot of choice when it comes to down filled garments, however not all down is the same. Down is rated on it's ability to provide warmth. The best quailty will take up extra volume and provide more warmth per unit weight. The Western Mountaineering Hooded Flash Jacket is filled with the highest quality Eastern European goose down. This has been independently tested in Europe and has been found to surpass the EU 900 fill power criteria (trust us ...that is good!) When Western Mountaineering designed the Hooded Flash they were not trying to create the warmest jacket on the market. Instead they wanted to create a jacket that weighed as little as possible yet remained warm in less extreme climates. To achieve this the shell fabric is made from a tightly woven material that weighs just 0.9 oz. per square yard. They have managed to eliminate cordlocks by finishing the hood and waist with lightweight elastic piping to seal out the cold. To ensure maximum comfort the pockets have been insulated with down on both sides and even the zipper has insulated draft protection. If you are looking for an insulated jacket that is both warm and functional (not too bulky) in cold conditions then the Western Mountaineering Hooded Flash is a very good choice. We have this jacket in both black and dark brown, however unfortunatley we now only have limited sizes available.
