An uninterrupted slab of three and a half inches (89 mm) of high-quality foam, the Black Diamond Drop Zone is an excellent all-around pad with a large carrying capacity. Built with two and a half inches (64 mm) of open-cell foam for energy absorption and one inch (25 mm) of closed-cell foam for force dissipation, its taco design and bottom and side flaps (with stainless steel buckles) let you stuff it full of gear. An mesh accessory pocket on the side flap secures your shoes, chalk, and your small essentials. The removable, padded shoulder straps and hip belt (mounted high on the pad for clearance in tight spots) provide a comfortable carry. Redesigned with improved buckles for durability and ease of use, a new suspension system for better transport, redesigned square corners for better coverage when pushed up to other pads, and updated graphics, while maintaining its premium foam layup.

  • Closed-cell PE foam layup on top High-compression PU foam on bottom
  • Taco-style fold for a continuous landing surface
  • Improved buckles on quick-closure elastic mesh flap, which stores gear inside the pad
  • Updated suspension for better transport with shoulder straps, waistbelt and two side grab handles
  • PU-coated 1000d Nylon on top, sides and bottom for abrasion and water resistance

Completely agree. BD bought Franklin Pads a few years ago and replaced it with this pad. The foam on this is soft after 6 months. My friend has had the old Franklin Dropzone pad from 4+ years ago which gets used with the same weekend-warrior frequency and is still much harder than the BD. I'm getting pretty annoyed with the lack of lastability of most BD stuff I have bought recently...packs, axes, crampons etc.

Pros: The buckles can be used as bottle openers. Good pad for about two months.
Cons: Not a good pad after two months.

This pad is easily the worst i own. Ive used it for a season of Gritstone bouldering/highballing and the foam is already in a worse state than my 10 year old POD mat. I wouldnt recommend it, get a dmm highball or moon warrior.

the older model of dropzone(grey colour) is much better quality.

i've used this for one season and the foam went really thin, surprisingly thin, and a couple of my friends, who have the same pads, also mentioned how thin the foam becomes after a year.

i really hope that black diamond will realise, or get ebough amount of complaints from customers and make a better model sometime soon.
i would recommend not to buy this one unless you want to waste your money.
