This sizing advice is based on two pairs of brand new shoes. Leather shoes tend to stretch
more than synthetic shoes. When switching from synthetic to leather you may want to select a smaller size.
The Boreal Mutant is a high end shoe which has been designed for sport climbing and bouldering on steep rock. They are mid-stiffness to provide all round technical ability no matter what the terrain, be it edging, smears, toe hooks or heels, the Mutant has it covered.
The last is downturned and asymmetric so that you can pull with your feet when things get really steep and also to keep your feet in the best position to provide power on small foot holds. The sole features the super sticky Zenith compound of rubber at the forefoot for high levels of friction and the heel cup is moulded from one piece. One piece mouldings give a better overall fit with less deadspace and also hold their shape better over time.
A thinner rubber is used on the middle of the sole to improve flexibility and give a closer fit under the arch. The use of a Lateral Torsion System (this is a band of rubber which runs behind the heel then under your foot) helps to keep your foot in a more stable position and transmits power effectively to the toes.
The unlined leather upper has a "Friction Skin" coating, this is essentially a thin layer of very flexible rubber on the toes which allows for toes hooks without as much pain as can be caused by shoes with thick layers of standard rubber.
