Shaman

The Evolv Shaman is the new Chris Sharma signature shoe, designed by the man himself. Probably the most aggressive of the Evolv offerings this shoe is ideal for those overhanging sport routes and boulders.

The design process has incorporated some key elements which work together for maximum performance. There is a big toe 'knuckle box' and midsole 'love bump' which give the big toe room for a great fit but keep it firmly a position where you can get all available power for edging and grabbing strength. Power is transferred to the toes with a heel and arch rand which also eliminates dead space and movement during heelhooks. The Evolv Shaman aims to give the best combination of function and fit through the use of a leather forefoot liner for increased sensitivity and good feel together with a cotton heel to eliminate stretch. This is a very well thought out shoe.

Details:

  • Profile: Downturned asymmetric with 'knuckle box'
  • Closure: Three opposing hook and loop straps
  • Sole: Two piece 4.2mm TRAX high friction rubber
  • Rand: VTR3D variable thickness toe rand
  • Upper: Synthetic
  • Lining: Leather forefoot and footbed, cotton heel
  • Midsole: MX-P 1.5mm half length with 'love bump' midsole
  • Special: High friction toe patch

How I choose the correct size?

All climbing shoe models fit differently. We put together our 'shoeculator' to help you find the right size in a new model, compared to your old climbing shoes or street shoes.

Choose from the options below to find your size in the Evolv Shaman
Climbing Shoe
or
Street Shoe

This sizing advice is based on two pairs of brand new shoes. Leather shoes tend to stretch more than synthetic shoes. When switching from synthetic to leather you may want to select a smaller size.

Customer questions

Q

Will you be getting larger sizes again?

A

This shoe has been replaced by the Shaman 2 and so the larger sizes will not be coming back into stock.

Q

Hey, I'm thinking of buying the Evolv Shaman shoe around christmas time. I was just wondering how long the deal you have on it at the moment will last for!

Many thanks,

Joe

A

This is a clearance deal ...and so it will keep going until we have sold out. So far we have run out of sizes 9.5 and 10.

Superb shoes, first pair of non-Scarpas I've found that fit. Excellent on everything I've attempted so far, they're fine for several hour long bouldering sessions or long sport climbs, might think twice about tradding in them though.

I bought these as my first aggressive shoe and bought the same size as my street shoe, they were stupidly un comfortable and the pain was un bearable, the heel was very baggy and there was no give in them at all. I then tried on a size and two sizes bigger than my street shoe and still no luck. I was un able to stand up in them let alone climb in them.

I personally wouldn't recommend them to anyone who is new to an aggressive shoe! They felt clunky and not very precise on the feet.

If you can withstand the pain then I imagine they are amazing, the rubber was very sticky!

The customer service from banana fingers was the best aspect of these shoes, they offered me a full refund or an exchange on another shoe. Thanks guys!

In all honesty these are my first pair of what I would call serious shoes and in my case the sacrifice has been a trade off between all-day comfort vs. increased in sure footed climbing ability that these shoes have afforded me on the wall.
Now I'm into my third month of ownership and the initial sizing regrets (I'm a wimp who preferred pain free comfort) have now vanished and the shoes have formed nicely to the shape of my feet.
Notes:Purchased street shoe size, initially borderline unbearable. Now bearable and by my own admission i'm no climbing ace but these shoes IMO have upped my game.
Bananafingers customer service rocks.

These shoes are fantastic!
I have a wide ("high volume") foot and large heel and usually have to rely on slippers (Instinct S/Moccasyms) to get a suitable fit. I bought a pair of Evolv Nexxo's because of the shape of the shoe, and the Shaman's are very similar.
I'm really liking Evolv's love bump - helps put just a little bit more power through the toes without being overly uncomfortable.

I would caution sizing though: I wear a UK7.5 street shoe - in my Instinct S's I wear UK7.5 and Moccasyms an eye-wateringly tight UK 5. My Nexxo's are UK8 so I bought these the same size. They were perhaps a bit too comfortable from the outset (although the straps help compensate for that) so I purchased another pair half a size down (UK7.5) - Ouch! The size difference is quite considerable as the shoes seem a decent bit shorter.

Good shoe but be careful if you have narrow feet, I found the heel a bit too big which made my foot to slip in the shoes while heel hooking. There's space between my heel and the shoe which is a bit disappointing and make complicated to hook on small holds...
Otherwise very good toe and the rubber feels good (maybe a bit harder than xs grip 2 though).

So good shoe overall but 3 stars because I lack confidence in that heel.

Perfect service banana fingers !
