The La Sportiva Katana Lace is, as the name suggests, the lace up version of the original Katana. Therefore you can expect them to work well through the varied disciplines of climbing through easy and hard grades, La Sportiva have even added some extra technical details into the shoe which enhance the performance to even greater levels.

The La Sportiva Katana Lace has the tried and tested P3 system which will ensure that your new shoes maintain the same downturned profile throughout their life. An innovative construction method places a lining between the rand and the leather upper, this means you will get the great breathing properties and precision of an unlined shoe with the minimal stretch of a lined shoe.

The incorporation of the laces means you can tailor the internal volume of the shoe more accurately to the shape of your feet creating an even greater fit and feel of precision. To cap off this already brilliant shoe is the Vibram XS Edge rubber which is great in most situations and excels on those smaller holds.

Details:

  • Upper: A combination of suede leather and Lorica®, tubular construction
  • Lining: Front and back Pacific lining
  • Fit: Medium Volume
  • Midsole :Laspoflex 1,1 mm combined to the P3 System

How I choose the correct size?

All climbing shoe models fit differently. We put together our 'shoeculator' to help you find the right size in a new model, compared to your old climbing shoes or street shoes.

Choose from the options below to find your size in the La Sportiva Katana Lace
Climbing Shoe
or
Street Shoe

This sizing advice is based on two pairs of brand new shoes. Leather shoes tend to stretch more than synthetic shoes. When switching from synthetic to leather you may want to select a smaller size.

These shoes are comfortable right from the start and I found that I had massive confidence in them straight away. I am a size 10 and I got a size 9 but it was too tight on the top of my toes so I had to change to a size 9.5. Highly recommend them . The service from bananafingers was excellent and were very helpfull when I changed the shoes for a size bigger.

Overall these are a great shoe. The only problem I have had is the sizing. After reading various recommendations I decided to go with a 9 UK size whereas I am 10.5 UK Size in normal shoe.

After about 8 weeks of climbing these really don't seem to have stretched to any degree that would be deemed as comfortable. I can therefore only manage about 5 or 6 climbs before they really start to cramp my feet and cause pain in the heel and knuckles of my toes.

That isn't the shoe's fault but the recommendations I saw for extreme climbers to go to 3 sizes down seem over the top to a point where it is detrimental to your climbing technique.

The shoes themselves perform very well, the grip is decent and the pointed toe is great for getting decent foot holds. The top leather is quite easy to scuff and scrape.

The heel tucks in tight but can put pressure on your Achilles however, i highly suspect that is a poor choice on my part in the sizing. The lace version is great and you can get a great adjustment on the shoe to mould to your foot.

I will likely sell my current ones off and repurchase these in a larger size. I would estimate a 0.5 to 1 UK size smaller to get the right fit for prolonged climbing although 1.5 UK sizes below is tolerable for that little bit extra for difficult routes.

Overall a great climbing shoe highly recommended

Purchased these about a month ago - really awesome shoe. Good snug fit, tight in all the right places and gives really good feedback on your foot placement. They've stretched nicely over the last month, so don't be put off by the initial tight fit. Great service from Banana Fingers too - came really quickly. Thanks guys!

I have now just about broke them in ( or the other way around). Maybe I needed 1/2 size bigger.
Cracking shoes, worth the money
