The eagerly awaited women's version of the La Sportiva Katana climbing shoe finally makes its first UK appearance. In terms of shape this shoe looks very much like the original Katana, however women and men with narrow feet should find that there is less bagging of the upper when the straps are pulled tight.
The La Sportiva Katana Women's is an all round climbing shoe that is comfortable enough for beginners but technical enough for those climbing at a high level. The men's version of this shoe has always been one of our top sellers, and so we are tipping this shoe to do very well.
Sportiva have used lined this shoe with two different materials to ensure the right balance is struck between comfort and practicality. The front portion of the shoe is lined with Pacific; a stretchy synthetic fibre that will provide more comfort for your toe knuckles, whearas the rear portion uses Dentex (which is apparently has a top secret formula), which has two-way stretch, and should provide better moisture management than the Pacific (the fibre, not the ocean).
The upper is part leather (the pink bit) and part lorica (the toe box). Leather has a bit of stretch which helps with comfort, whereas the lorica toe box ensures that the action-end of the shoe keeps its shape. The rubber is 4mm Vibram XS Grip 2.
If you are looking for a low volume shoe with great edging capabilities that will serve you well indoors or out, on walls or boulders, then the Katana Women's is a great shout.
