Chimera

The Scarpa Chimera is a top end climbing shoe which is built around the same highly popular last as the Drago and Furia. The Chimera is soft, but not quite as soft as the Drago or Furia allowing for an increased edging ability. A great fit can be dialed in with the asymmetric lacing system and the SRT rand and hand built heel make for excellent heel and toe hooks. Scarpa have included a TPS plastic insert under the forefoot in the Chimera, this gives support to the toes when they are pushing down hard, however, when you are smearing it stretches out increasing the contact surface area for a better grip.

Details:

Sole: Vibram XS Grip 2 3.5mm
Last: FZ
Upper: Microfiber/Leather
Weight: 210g (per 1/2 size 42)

Review of the Scarpa Chimera

How I choose the correct size?

All climbing shoe models fit differently. We put together our 'shoeculator' to help you find the right size in a new model, compared to your old climbing shoes or street shoes.

Choose from the options below to find your size in the Scarpa Chimera
Climbing Shoe
or
Street Shoe

This sizing advice is based on two pairs of brand new shoes. Leather shoes tend to stretch more than synthetic shoes. When switching from synthetic to leather you may want to select a smaller size.

great complement to the Booster S ,a little softer so perhaps better overall at smearing but not as sensitive on tiny holds.
Its got all you need in a top class bouldering shoe.
The last appears to be the same as the Instinct line with a narrower heel possibly
Sizing as above...but 1/2 size down from my Booster S giving a glove like fit.
Bought them to replace Futuras for steeper climbing/smearing.They seem to do this very well and for me much more comfy.

I purchased the Chimera 2 weeks ago. I got them the same size as my Scarpa Boostics (38 1/3/ 5.5 UK).

The fit is quite snug with a better heel fit than my Boostics. Being the Chimera it has taken the best part of the Scarpa range. The last, the tension system and TPS insert. The lacing system makes a huge difference for me as my feet are slightly different in volume, removing all the dead space in the shoe.

It edges quite well for a soft shoe and the toe hook is amazing due to the same massive patch of rubber as with its counterpart, the Drago. The heel is very interesting as it is quite stiff down the spine allowing full force on certain heels without losing any power.

I highly recommend this shoe for those who are looking for something comfortable with great performance within the Scarpa range.

Awesome shoes, but keep in mind that there are some slight differences from similar Scarpa Drago. For example, the heel is a little bit deeper (and slightly different shape - you can compare photos - differences are quite visible), more tensioned, and made with less rubber. Laces are a lot better than single velcro to get that dialed in fit, since Drago does not have any elastic pieces and are only kept in place via one velcro. Toe is just a little bit harder than Drago, only noticed when directly comparing the shoes. Still very soft shoes.
Overall very similar to Scarpa Drago, but with deeper heel and better overall fit due to laces.
