The Scarpa Instinct SR is the updated version of the popular Instinct S slipper. This model includes a larger area of toe rubber and a new heel, both of which feature the ultra-sticky M50 rubber, and a half-length Flexan 1.0mm midsole to enhance flexibility.
The SR is an all-round climbing shoe with high performance and versatility, but its softness lends itself well to indoor climbing and bouldering. The slightly asymmetrical, downturned shape and medium angled toe box will perform on all angles of rock, however, it's powerful toe-hooking and sensitive heel hooking are the what the SR's excels at. The 5 panel microfibre upper with a seamless big toe panel and seamless four-toe panel provide the greatest possible equalisation of power through the foot and onto the rock. It also won't stretch to maintain the SR's performance fit.

Technical Specifications

  • Rand: Bi-Tension

  • Sole: XS Grip2 3.5mm

  • Heel: M50

  • Last: FV

  • Upper: Microfibre

Scarpa Instinct SR Shoe Review

How I choose the correct size?

All climbing shoe models fit differently. We put together our 'shoeculator' to help you find the right size in a new model, compared to your old climbing shoes or street shoes.

Choose from the options below to find your size in the Scarpa Instinct SR - Last Season's
Climbing Shoe
or
Street Shoe

This sizing advice is based on two pairs of brand new shoes. Leather shoes tend to stretch more than synthetic shoes. When switching from synthetic to leather you may want to select a smaller size.

Good soft slipper

A lower volume shoe compared with the other men’s shoes in the instinct family. This means that, if sized appropriately, your toes are going to be more scrunched up relative to the same size in the Instinct VS for example. The elasticated rubber at the top of the shoe does a good job of keeping tension on the midfoot and pushing your foot firmly into the shoe. Having to take the slipper on and off frequently, however, requires the heel to be deformed again and again, causing it to potentially bag out. The toe box suits people with medium to wide forefeet and whose second toe is a little longer than their big toe. Overall, the SR is a thoughtful and well-constructed shoe. An all-rounder that is on the softer side. If you do decide to get them, you will likely not be disappointed.

Precise toe, horrendous heel

After using the Instinct Laces for a good few months and absolutely loving them, I thought I'd try these for more indoor activities. They took ages to break in and when they did the heel completely fell through. Even the tiniest of heel-hooks and the shoe comes straight off. Massively disappointed with the heel on these and wouldn't recommend them to anyone for that reason. When I've needed a heel hook I've ended up wearing an old Vapour V instead on the appropriate foot.

It's very possible it's simply to the shape of my foot however considering how nicely the Instinct Laces fit me I was very surprised these didn't. I rammed my toes in for a smaller fit than normal but made no difference. Now my toes are compressed with no benefit.

Snug fit, quite comfy, great heel

Have them in Size 43. Fit perfectly to my foot shape. A little struggle to get into but then feel like molded onto my feet.
Feel a little stiffer as my ocun ozones but they are considerably older maybe the instinct will soften up a bit. The rubber sticks nicely.
The heel has a great snug fit and is very sensitive, feels really secure especially for a slipper.
My ocun ozones have just a tad more volume at the heel and feel really wobbly in comparison.

Have worn them for about 3h now and they actually feel comfy now although the toebox had some tight spots in the beginning.

Fab performance

Bought these as in indoor shoe and after 3 uses I'm certain these will be my favourite shoe for years to come. For me, they fit even better than the instinct s that they've replaced. They always feel snug all round without any uncomfortable pressure points and stick to any hold I choose. A fantastic design and great performer.
