For all-around climbers who know that time spent fiddling with leg loops and adjusting a pinching waistbelt is time wasted, the Black Diamond Momentum delivers a time-saving design for all styles of climbing. A pre-threaded Speed Adjust waistbelt buckle saves time and eliminates error when tying in, while Dual Core Construction puts an emphasis on comfort, even when you’re posted up at a hanging belay. TrakFIT leg-loops easily adjust for cool fall days at the crag or blazing summer days on long multi-pitches, and four pressure-molded gear loops and a haul loop make this our most popular all-rounder.

  • Pre-threaded Speed Adjust waistbelt buckle
  • Bullhorn-shaped waistbelt built using Dual Core Construction
  • Patent-pending trakFIT adjustment for easy leg loop customization
  • Adjustable rear elastic riser

Customer questions

Q

Hi
what size do I select for 30/31inch waist as the sizing is not clear.

Thks

A

A small is 27 to 30 inches, whereas medium is 30 to 33 inches. Therefore a medium sounds most suitable (particularly if you are going to be climbing outdoors this winter - with extra clothing on).

I've had this harness about six months, at first I was satisfied, mostly used for indoor climbing and top roping, it fits well and is really comfortable and adjustable.
However, today while out at the crag I noticed the clasp that tightens down the right leg loop had cracked. I have no idea how long it's been like that, I check my gear often. It hasn't had much hard use so that's a pretty bad manufacturing error in my opinion. The clasps are made from seemingly weak plastic, Although this doesn't affect the safety and overall operation of the harness it is a pretty big annoyance.

An important thing to note when buying this harness is that the sizes come out very small. I have a 31 inch waist, but a size medium Momentum (which is recommended for 30 - 33 inch waists) was far too small. I could just about pull it over my hips, which brings me to my next hump regarding the design of the waist belt.

The waist belt has been designed with only one buckle. Great you might think, as it requires less adjustment when strapping in. However, not so great design-wise as you would need an absolutely perfect fit in order for the Black Diamond logo at the back of the harness to align with the belay loop in the front (and for a comfortable fitting in general).

After trying it on, I actually sent it back and instead bought a harness with dual-sided buckles for the waist belt, which allows for further adjustability for proper fitting.

I realise that I've never actually climbed in this harness (due to my issues around the design and fitting), which perhaps makes this review somewhat trivial. There's a potential chance that it could be super comfortable once you get the sizing right.
