Grivel Ghost

Weighing in at just 269g the Ghost is Grivel's lightest ice axe with a steel pick. The Ghost is a basic ice tool for weight-critical situations, excellent at self arrest and very comfortable to hold. It comes into it's own on short glacier crossings at a summit, ski mountaineering and ultralight backpacking. The carbon steel pick makes this axe more durable and versatile than an enitirely aluminium axe like other similar tools, giving greater power when stopping a fall or punching through thin snowpack. The pick is shaped with a traditional positive curve, a sharp chisel point, and an alloy adze welded to the back that works well for chipping ice. The adze has a large cut out to reduce weight. The pick is toothless for “glove-friendliness” while using it as a piolet. The shaft is made from shaped aluminum tubing, featuring a gentle curve along its entire length to facilitate self-arresting and high dagger use. The spike on the bottom of the Ghost is made from the cut aluminum shaft to save weight, with a plug so that it doesn't fill with snow and get weighed down.
