Edelweiss have developed the O-Flex process to increase the durability of a range of their ropes. This new braiding system creates a single, perfectly round core element (rather than multiple core elements). This helps to ensure that the rope maintains its shape and flexibility throughout its life. In fact tests have shown that on artificial climbing structures (which presumeably means at climbing walls) the O-Flex process increases a ropes lifespan by 2 to 3 times (over ropes with traditional core construction methods). Pretty impressive stuff.
It is also worth mentioning that the O-Flex 9.8mm has a mid-point indicator and HD Cover. HD Cover ensures that during the sheath braiding the strands are individually controlled (rather than controlled in pairs as is usually the case). This results in a smoother, more durable sheath which increases the lifespan of the rope and prevents extra braking in belay systems.
The O-Flex 9.8mm is therefore a very supple rope which has been specifically designed for intensive use (top-roping). The combination of the O-Flex method and HD cover results in a rope that handles superbly, has great abrasion resistance and a long lifespan.
